Worship: We are simply Christians who are doing our best to follow the New Testament pattern of worship. We believe that it is necessary to only pursue those things in our worship service that God has prescribed in the New Testament. Here are the five things you should look for us to fulfill in every service.
Singing:
One of the things people usually find the most interesting when they visit is that we do not have a choir, or any other singing group. We all sing! And it is beautiful! We sing songs of praise and adoration to God, songs are directed by one of the men of our congregation.
Eph 5:19
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Prayer:
1 Tim 2:1-8
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle--I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying--a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
Communion:
We spend time every Lord's day partaking of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine in order to remember the great sacrifice that was made on our behalf.
Acts 20:7
Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.
Giving:
Each and every Christian contributes financially to the work of the church on each Lord's Day
1 Cor 16:2-3
On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.
Preaching/Bible Study
We spend much of our Worship service each week in study of Gods word. We believe that God's word is authoritative and should be our guide in all that we do. When you come visit us you will hear a lesson prepared from the Word of God which is based on God's word in both principle and practice. The message will also be presented in a way that help us to make application in our own lives to become better followers of the Bible.
You can expect us to have a wholesome respect for the inspired word of God, the SOLE and COMPLETE AUTHORITY in religion today. “If any man speak let him speak as the oracles of God” (1 Peter 4:11). “Let us all walk by the same rule” (Philippians 3:16). Since the church at Logan Martin accepts the Word of God as an all-sufficient rule of faith and practice you can expect us to reject all human creeds (Galatians 1:8-9; Revelation 22:18-19).
Acts 20:7
Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.
Christ Commands
You can expect us to teach and ask people to follow Christ's commands as found in the Bible. Jesus declared, “Upon this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18), so the church is identified as belonging to Him (Romans 16:16). In the church, you will hear everyone entreated to obey the Lord’s commands, namely: BELIEVE in Christ (John 8:24), REPENT (Luke 13:3), CONFESS Christ (Matthew 10:32), and be BAPTIZED into Christ (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38) in order to become a Christian, a member of the Lord’s church. After becoming a Christian, disciples are then urged to continue faithfully in worshiping and serving the Lord as the New Testament directs.
